Using Interactive Behavior Picture Stories to Guide Children with Chronic Challenging Behaviors in Early Childhood Classrooms : This session will highlight ways that teachers and others working with young children with behavioral and emotional challenges can use Interactive Behavior Picture Stories (IBPS) to guide social skill development in positive ways. Interactive Behavior Picture Stories are similar to the social stories intervention developed by Carol Gray for use with children with autism, but IBPS are specifically designed for any young child who exhibits internalized or externalized challenging behaviors. The presenter will report on her own current research in the area and justify the strategy for children with even chronic challenging behaviors. Various Behavior Picture Story examples will be shared.

Using Sign Language in Early Childhood : The use of basic signing in an early childhood setting. The attendees will be provided with information about sign language as well as demonstrations of basic signs to use with children in early childhood settings.

A General Overview of Early Childhood Special Education Services: This workshop will be an overview of Early Childhood Special Education Services. We will go through the process of screening, referral, evaluation and the placement of children with disabilities between the ages of 3 to 5. We will also discuss indicators that providers can look for to help identify these children in their centers.

KITS –In-House Trainer Guides for Directors and Trainers : KITS—In-House trainer guides are designed for use by directors in programs serving children birth-kindergarten. There are three topics (Professionalism, Families and learning Environment/Program for Children) and each is available online or on a CD. Each topic is divided into training session topics that last approximately 60 minutes. Directors may register in TAPP as trainers and use these KITS as in-house training for staff. Our topic today is FAMILIES! Find out more about offering in-house training topics to your staff.

An integrative, holistic approach will be emphasized using existing routines, activities and developmentally appropriate lessons.

Yoga Kids: Helping Kids be Sane in an Insane World A brief introduction to Yoga for kids. Classroom settings in pre-schools may be very loud and chaotic with young children becoming stressed and overly excited throughout the day. With Yoga for Kids you will learn some new techniques that may help reduce stress in the classroom and increase a greater sense of self within your kids. This is just one tool that you may be able to incorporate throughout the day to your kids. Everyone needs to learn how to breathe and relax…even our kids.
